Description
While doing gymnastics, there is always a chance of slipping and getting injured, therefore a beam of an approved standard is the most important apparatus for a gymnast. Before 1980 plain polished wooden beams were used but now this type of beam is banned due to its extreme slipperiness. It is now essential that the beam is covered with anti-slip leather or suede and also fitted with high quality rubber padding to absorb high shock.
Typically a new gymnast begins by using the floor balance beam to learn the skills of gymnastics. The floor balance beam is roughly the same size as the approved balance beam, but is placed at a slightly lower height than the accepted balance beam and is also sometimes placed on a carpeted surface or mat.
NHD Nifty Gymnastics Balance Beam is constructed under the strict guidelines issued by the International Gymnastic Federation. The beam is made of a 4 inches by 5 inches rectangular 9 to 15 feet long teakwood wooden beam. To avoid accidental injury and absorb high shocks, the top of the beam has been cushioned from 3 different types of rubber and all the sharp edges of the beam have also been curved slightly. The entire beam is covered with genuine leather which is many times stronger than synthetic leather. It does not break, tear, peel or puncture easily and has the strength to sustain cuts or punctures for a long time. Its upper surface is rough which provides a better grip and also prevents slippage caused by sweat.
